Notes - Samuel & Violet Blackwell
Samuel Ormond Blackwell, son of Wilson Blackwell and Emily McIntyre, was born on 29 Sep 1899 in Bromley Twp., died on 6 Dec 1986 in Pembroke, aged 87, and was buried in Rosebank Cemetery. Samuel married Violet May Burman, daughter of Alfred Burman and Florence Elizabeth Cowper, on 2 Nov 1931 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Violet was born on 23 Oct 1907 in Kitchener, Ontario, died in 1992 in Stoney Creek, Ontario, aged 85, and was buried in Rosebank Cemetery. They had five children: Samuel Kenneth, Florence Emily, Burman Wilson, Harold O and Beverley J.
In 1936 Sam & Violet operated a private hospital in the Connelly residence at 5 Crawford St., Cobden (currently Heubner?s Funeral Home) In 1940 they opened an Appliance Store at 36 Main St. Sam purchased the property in May 1955 from his step-mother?s estate. The display of antiques in the store window proved to be more alluring for business and the focus shifted over time away from appliances.
